Round four of the Waldrons West Midlands Cyclocross league took the Redditch Road and Path Cycling Club to Wolverhampton. Spirits were high as they were met by warm sunshine and some hard technical courses which tend to suite the redditch riders.

The u10's were first as usual with a large field of 81 riders Sulli Berry continued his strong start to the season narrowly avoiding a nasty crash at the start to finish a credible 17th in his catagory beating some of his close league rivals. Unfortunately the redditch team were caught up in two more separate crashes Patrick Crump had to retire injured but after being patched up by first aiders was looking forward to his next ride. Hannah Turnbull suffered but managed to get back on her bike to finish and score in the league. Joseph Turnbull was 5th u8 boy home. Charlotte Blundell riding in just her second race finished well with Ryan Oldfield next home 3rd u6 boy. Alexandra Franks Phoebe Strain and Lucy Blundell all finished to score well in the league. Mathew Blundell found it hard going on his single speed bike but still completed 2 laps.

Sam Wainwright won the battle of the three Redditch U12 boys this week piping James Ralph by just 10 seconds and Scott Mathews by less than a minute, all rode really well and improved their placings against their league rivals. Clarissa Palmeri had a strong race to come in 4th U12 Girl home and Georgia Davis was 8th U12 Girl home both great results in a strong regional U12 catagory.

The Ladies race combined this year with the Juniors and Vets 50+ ha over 90 entries. With Debbie Salkeld on commissaire duties it was left for Tracey Palmeri to carry the Redditch Flag along side Veteran Pete Varian, both had great races with Tracey being 3rd Lady Vet to finish using great strength to hold of late surges from her more experienced rivals.

The youth race is one of the fastest of the day. Abel Mclindon continued his strong performances with a brilliant 15th Place. Chris knight who prefers his mountain bike backed up last weeks improvement with another great ride finishing 23rd. After a slow start Gareth Richardson picked his way through the riders gaining places each lap to finish 19th in the u14's cat for the second week in a row. Fraser Salkeld, Luca Palmeri, Olivia Salkeld and Joe Geehan all worked hard finishing with league points.

The seniors and vets were well represented in the last race of the day. With the course now cut up and very muddy in places the top riders made short work of the long, technical, leg sapping course. Terry Richardson managed just to hold off Paul Salkeld as they swapped positions through out the race. Senior James Strain in only his second race finished just ahead of Vets Adrian Leech and Mike Mathews with Tony Crossland a few places behind. Paul Berry crashed on numerous occassions brought up the rear of the redditch riders in his first race of the season however finishing with league points for his efforts.

This was another great turnout for the redditch team with all of the riders achieving good results in their respective age groups. If you'd like to know more or get involved with cycling in general, for fun or competitively we are always glad to have new members. Missed the paper this week and also missed including Abigale wright who had a great ride in her second race finishing 10th u10 girl a little tired but she assured me she enjoyed it, and her older sister Emily who was 7th u12 girl. I know both girls were nervous but it really didn't show in their riding well done girls good effort hope to see you all in Solihull this Sunday.
